"The Warren Alpert Foundation Summer Fellowship was a truly transformative experience for me as a prospective student pursuing a career in genetic counseling. As an undergraduate student, gaining meaningful exposure to the field can be challenging; however, the WAF Summer Fellowship provided an immersive opportunity to explore the profession and connect with leaders, students, and practicing genetic counselors across the five participating programs."

UPenn MSGC graduate and AGCF first year fellowship facilitator, Isaac Elysee, and team just published new research which highlights gaps in access to genetic healthcare.

We are excited to announce that Kathleen Valverde, Lisa Kessler, Kathleen Berentsen Swenson, Shannon Dixon, and Claire Davis are contributors to the new Educational Theories and Techniques for Genetic Counselors — part of the Genetic Counseling in Practice series!

Class of 2024 Warren Alpert scholar Shannon Gray published an article for NSGC Perspectives, which highlights her experience as a Black genetic counseling student, entitled "Equity for Black Individuals in Genetic Counseling Requires More Than Intention". 

Marcely Ventura, Class of 2026, received the Lauren Ryan Genetic Counselor Access Memorial Award. The mission of the Lauren Ryan Genetic Counselor Access Memorial Award is to increase access to the profession of genetic counseling for traditionally underrepresented or minority populations by providing financial support to current genetic counseling students.

Kathleen Valverde, PhD, LCGC, is probably best known for her role as the program director of the University of Pennsylvania (previously Arcadia University) Genetic Counseling Programs since 2004.

Class of 2025 Warren Alpert scholar, Timbria Burke (she/her), published a critically important piece for NSGC Perspectives entitled, “Black/African American” - Black Cultural Erasure in Genetic Counseling.

We are celebrating with Didar Yahia, Class of 2026 Warren Alpert Scholar in the Genetic Counseling Master’s Program at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. 

Class of 2025 Warren Alpert scholar, Lupita Sanchez, published a critically important piece for NSGC Perspectives entitled, “Confronting Biases and Embracing Intersectionality in Genetic Counseling”.

Evelyn is currently a 2nd-year genetic counseling student at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is a scholar of the Warren Alpert Foundation Alliance to Increase Diversity in Genetic Counseling Fellowship.
